Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the top ways to buy solar panels with backup power systems?
We offer outstanding battery backup systems that integrate seamlessly with solar panels. You’ll never have to worry about being without power again.
How It Works: During the day, your solar panels power your home and charge your batteries. At night, you use stored solar energy. During power outages, the system automatically switches to battery power—critical systems stay running without interruption, and your solar panels continue charging the batteries during daylight.
Two Purchase Options:
- Integrated System from Start: We design your solar system with battery backup included from day one. Everything is sized together, installed together, and covered under coordinated warranties.
- Add to Existing Solar: Retrofit a battery system to your current panels to upgrade your energy independence.
Financing: We offer zero money down financing for complete systems, we create custom payment plans to fit your budget.
Getting Started: Request a free consultation. We’ll assess your critical loads (refrigerator, medical equipment, heating/cooling, etc.), determine optimal battery size, evaluate your property, and discuss financing.
With nearly five decades of experience, we’re a single-source provider for solar, batteries, and roofing with joint warranties on integrated systems.
- What are common challenges when adding solar to existing roofs?
The biggest challenge is roof condition, and we take it seriously.
Our Policy: We will NOT install solar on an old roof, and we will NOT make extensive repairs to roofs we didn’t install. Here’s why:
The Risks:
-Solar installation can create or worsen roof leaks
-Mounting hardware penetrates roofing materials
-Improper installation voids roof warranties
-Removing panels for roof repair later is extremely costly and disruptive
Our Solution: We’re both a roofing AND solar company with nearly five decades of experience (we’re a division of Kautz Construction with 40+ years in roofing). Before installing solar, we thoroughly inspect your roof to verify it’s in good condition for “lasting performance and value for your long-term investment.”
If Your Roof Needs Work:
Option 1: Roof Restoration – We can address minor issues to prolong your roof’s lifespan (common for metal, flat membrane, or asphalt roofs)
Option 2: Roof Replacement – We’ll install a new roof before adding solar panels
Our Advantage:
-Single-source responsibility eliminates contractor conflicts
-Joint warranties on roof and solar (among the best in the industry)
-Proper installation techniques that maintain roof integrity
-Expert knowledge of both roofing and solar requirements
Many solar installers damage roofs or void warranties to make a quick sale. We protect your long-term interests by ensuring your roof is ready BEFORE we install solar. This commitment to quality sets us apart.
- How do backup battery systems work with solar panels?
Battery systems store your excess solar energy for use anytime, providing both daily benefits and backup power security.
Daily Operation:
Daytime: Solar panels generate electricity, power your home, charge your batteries, and send excess to the grid
Nighttime: Your home uses stored battery power instead of buying from the utility
Result: Maximize your solar energy use and minimize grid dependence
During Outages: The system automatically detects the outage and switches to battery power instantly. Your critical loads keep running—refrigerator, medical equipment, heating/cooling, lights, and communication devices. During daylight, your solar panels continue charging the batteries. When grid power returns, the system automatically switches back with no manual intervention needed.
System Components:
-Solar panels (sized for consumption plus battery charging)
-Battery storage (various capacities available)
-Inverter/charge controller (manages power flow)
-Transfer switch (automatic switching)
-Monitoring system (tracks performance and battery levels)
Benefits:
-Energy independence from the grid
-“Never worry about being without power again”
-Maximize your solar utilization
-No noisy generators needed
-Time-of-use rate optimization
-Potential revenue from selling stored energy during peak demand
Battery Sizing: We’ll help determine the right capacity based on your critical loads, desired backup duration (4-8 hours basic, 24-48 hours extended, or multiple days with solar recharging), daily consumption, and budget.
